OASI21 Reform - the most important changes


On 25 September 2022, the people and the cantons voted in favour of the OASI21 reform. From
January 1, 2024, the new regulations will be gradually implemented.

Effective from January 1, 2024 

  • Flexibilisation of pension entitlement
  • Recalculation of retirement pension due to continued work after the reference age 
  • Allowance for contributions 
  • Reduction of the waiting period for OASI helplessness allowance to 6 months 
  • Increase of VAT by 0.4%. 

Effective from January 1, 2025

  • Gradual increase in the reference age for women to 65
  • Compensation measures in the OASI for women of the transition generation (born between 1961 and 1969) 
  • Pension supplement for women who withdraw their old-age pension after the reference age
  • Decreased reduction rates for women who withdraw their retirement pension early 
Effective from January 1, 2025

  • Early withdrawal and deferral rates adjusted to life expectancy
  • Reduction in early withdrawal reduction rates for women and men by 40% for low-incomes 

OASI contributions after the reference age :

People continuing to work after the reference age can, under certain conditions, credit OASI contributions and use additional contribution periods to close gaps. Pensioners are free to choose whether to deduct the OASI allowance of CHF 1'400.00 per month or CHF 16'800.00 per year. Employed people wishing to waive the allowance must inform their employer at the latest when they receive their first salary after reaching the reference age. Self-employed people who wish to waive the allowance must inform their compensation office by 31 December of the contribution year.
